Young Iranians Took to Instagram to Show How They Really Look Like

Iranians took to Instagram to upload their photos under two hashtags #KarteMeliChallenge (“national ID card challenge”) and #DontJudgeChallengeTM to show the world what their everyday’s selves really look like. The Instagram posts show a stilted black and white ID photo next to a more casual photo. Iran has a strict ID photo guideline in which men are not allowed to wear hats, glasses, neckties, jewellery, styled hair or sideburns while the color of their clothes should not match the background. For women, they are required full hijab of plain dark-colorer headscarf with no makeup or jewellery. To date, over 100 snapshots have been uploaded to the social media.
