Hou Hsiao-hsien’s Assassin Swept at the Golden Horse

The Golden Horse Film Awards taking place in Taipei every November since 1962 is the most prestigious film awards event for Chinese movies in the world. You can call them the “Chinese Oscars” if you like. Last night, Hou Hsiao-hsien’s artful Assassin swept multiple awards including Best Feature Film and Best Director. Hou Hsiao-hsien himself also won Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year. He also won Best Director at Cannes earlier in the year. Congrats, Mr. Hou!
